Six Sigma Green Belt Training and Certification Program
The Purdue MEP Six Sigma Green Belt Training and Certification Program equips participants with a comprehensive understanding of Six Sigma tools, principles, and methodologies. Using the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) framework and data-driven statistical analysis, participants learn to identify root causes of problems, reduce variation, eliminate waste, and improve organizational performance.
Successful Six Sigma projects deliver measurable results and strengthen an organization's capability for process optimization and continuous improvement.
Purdue MEP's Six Sigma Green Belts are trained in a subset of Black Belt tools and methodologies. Using a targeted set of Black Belt tools and methodologies, Green Belt professionals develop strong problem-solving, analytical, and process optimization skills. Green Belts assist Black Belts with major projects and can independently lead projects. At many companies, Green Belts have a part-time continuous improvement role.
Green Belts:
- Support major, cross-functional process improvement projects or lead moderate, departmental projects
- Understand and utilize Six Sigma methodology and tools
- May have a part-time continuous improvement role
Minitab: Purdue MEP’s Six Sigma Green Belt Training and Certification Program includes training on how to use Minitab to perform statistical analysis. As part of the program fee, all participants will receive a six-month, non-renewable license to the latest version of Minitab.
Program Format and Materials:
- The Six Sigma Green Belt Training and Certification Program consists of 6 full days of instructor‑led training, offered either online or in person.
- Green Belt project coaching is included as part of the program and consists of 4 half-day sessions.
- Six Sigma Green Belt Body of Knowledge.
- Six Sigma Green Belt Exam: A Green Belt exam is administered at the conclusion of Day 6 of training.
- Students who do not pass the Six Sigma Green Belt exam are eligible to participate in a future Purdue MEP Six Sigma Green Belt training series at no additional cost to strengthen their knowledge and prepare for a second exam attempt. The Six Sigma Green Belt Certificate of Training Completion will be awarded once the exam is passed. This is to ensure the student has acquired the knowledge and skillset to be successful in their Six Sigma journey, verifying their competency in the concepts and tools required for successful Six Sigma implementation.
- Participants will receive the Six Sigma Green Belt Certificate of Training Completion only after passing the Green Belt exam. This verifies their competency in the concepts and tools required for successful Six Sigma implementation.
- Curriculum materials are provided electronically through a file-sharing platform.
- Purdue MEP will provide each participant with a Six Sigma Pocket Toolkit.
- Participants may purchase printed course materials during the registration process for an additional $25.
Objectives:
- Understand Six Sigma tools and the DMAIC methodology
- Ability to implement process improvement projects
- Demonstrate the ability to spearhead and implement a Green Belt project
- Gain hands‑on Minitab training and experience for statistical quality analysis
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement by applying and modeling Six Sigma principles in daily operations
Eligibility, Requirements, and Prerequisites:
- No prerequisites
- Registrants should possess basic computer, math, and communication skills
- Participants are required to provide their own Windows laptop, as the software and course exercises used during training are not supported on Mac computers
Participant Responsibilities:
- Attend and actively participate in all scheduled training sessions
- Demonstrate proficiency by completing and passing required exam
- Identify and bring a prospective Green Belt project to class for discussion and assistance with scope and development
- Use Minitab statistical software throughout the course, provided at no additional cost with registration fee
- Participate using a self-provided Windows laptop (Macs are not supported)
What You'll Earn:
- A Certificate of Training Completion: A Six Sigma Green Belt Certificate of Training Completion is granted to participants who attend all 6 days of training and successfully pass the Six Sigma Green Belt exam. The Certificate of Completion verifies successful completion of the training but does not constitute a Six Sigma Green Belt Certification.
- In addition, this course provides 48 Professional Hours (PDHs) that participants may apply towards their ongoing professional development
- Green Belt Certification: Six Sigma Green Belt Certification is granted to participants who have received the Six Sigma Green Belt Certificate of Training Completion and successfully complete a Green Belt level project within 120 days of passing the Green Belt exam. Upon completion of all items and an approved project, participants earn a Six Sigma Green Belt Certification with digital badge.
- Digital Badge: Participants who earn Six Sigma Green Belt Certification will receive a digital badge that contains verifiable metadata validating their achievement. The badge can be displayed on LinkedIn, in email signatures, digital portfolios, résumés, and other platforms to showcase expertise in Six Sigma and continuous improvement. Digital badges are awarded only to participants who successfully earn Six Sigma Green Belt Certification.
